The story of Auma Gifty

  • by

“I wish to go back to school, complete my P.7 school and in the future become someone better. I aspire to become a medical Dr. When I become someone better, I will buy land and relocate my Aunty from renting. If others can make it, why not me?” Auma Gifty narrate,

Auma Gifty, 9-year-old girl is an orphan living with her Aunty, Ms. Akello Jennifer in Pader Town Council, Lagwai, Pader District. “Gifty is a very brilliant girl and most teachers in school love so much. Her situation is a little bit different, as the real mother – my sister, gave birth to her abandoned her and doesn’t know her father. Up to now, Gifty’s mum can’t be traced. When Gifty was enrolled into ART at Acol Pii, Kilak Sub County, Pader she couldn’t timely and consistently take her medication. I am so glad that, at least now, at 9 yrs she has mastered the time for her daily medication. She dropped out of school since I couldn’t afford paying her fees and other scholastic materials. I am also a single mother of four and its now hard for me to support her. If the NWOYA CHARITY FOUNDATION (NCF) and friends can support her education, it will be good enough.

Second of all, Gifty needs to eat good nutritious food – which act as a booster in her immune systems. Sometimes, she ends up not taking it as there’s no food and the medicine is too strong. We eat only once a day, since I can’t afford 3 meals a day. We survive from the maize roasting on the road side that I do in Pader Town, and it’s the only source of livelihood. The condition is too tough for my niece but I have nothing to do than, survive the hard way ” Akello Jennifer during the psychosocial support counselling and engagement in Lagwai East, Pader District.

Together, we can empower Gifty Auma and help her overcome the challenges and build a brighter future.
